This is so awesome!! Really beautiful work, I bet she really likes showing that off!!!

Deborah Johnson replied:

She is a ham and very willing, wouldn't force her to endure long clips if I felt she stressed over it. She is a fun canvas to work on. Thanks for the comments.

Is Anna an aspiring poodle? Does she behave while you're doing this to her? She seems so proud of her do. It's great.

Deborah Johnson replied:

HA,HA ! Good one. She is VERY tolerent of the clipping, the Nifty Fifty clip took six hours over three days and she was perfectly behaved. She has been gettting annual clips since she was 8 months old. And she LOVES the attention that follows.

Artist's Description

This image is of my mule Anna Mae. She grows an extrem winter fur coat. Impacted by an election one year i was inspired to clip this design into her fur. See a slide show i posted on youtube that has more images of this clip, search Star Spangled Republican Mule.(I know mules are the democrats symbol, but if you knew her, she is not a democrat) It was great fun and I plan to do more fur sculptures in the furture.

About Deborah Johnson

Deborah Johnson

Outside of a brief study in commercial art after graduation from high school, I am self taught. Ever learning and studying that I might realize the depth of the gift God has given me. I have resided in WNY always, and years ago came full circle back to the family farm, that was founded by my mother for advancement of the equestrian arts. My husband and I own and operate it now as a modest equine facility and it is here that I find my inspiration. I am often reminded of the sage advice, “Paint what you know”, as I ponder a new work. This brings me back to the horses and the natural world environment that is just beyond the threshold of the stable door. It is my observations and relationships I experience here...
